As an educator, this manifests in a never-ending hunt for the “lost prerequisites.” The central ideas we’ve forgotten the true nature of after generations of over-simplifying, over-complicating, and commercially branding them into unrecognizable forms.
And as an artist, this manifests as a gentle lean into the macabre. The inclusion of controversial characters and uncomfortable ideas, wrapped in pretty silk ribbons and shrapnel. No matter how mild or fantastical the story may be, there is always a touch of reality, in all its glory and horror.
