The world of Makrosm is a vessel for the endless stories I have come up with over the years. Its worldbuilding is based on a few simple principles:
CONSISTENCY & CONSEQUENCES
There are no contradictions or alternative timelines. Although there are several dimensions, there is a canonical reality to every event. Concepts or developments that are introduced in one project will affect another, such as major world events or changes to shared characters. What is here is also there.
FLEXIBILITY & CONTRIBUTION
There is enough freedom to explore stories of a variety of genres and scopes, from modern romcoms to world-ending space operas. Of course, some themes are present across all works. The universe is optimized for contributions to its broader story, whether they be in-game roleplays, commissions I purchase, or postmortem fanlore.
APPROPRIATION & AESTHETICS
This world is heavily influenced by classical literature. It reinterprets mythological and cultural concepts, such as religious figures and systems of worship. Like the creators who inspired it, participants should pay mindful attention to detail and be open-minded towards research and skill-building.
The name is a reference to the concept of the “macrocosm” (versus “microcosm”), or the phrase “as above, so below.” I feel this captures the themes and structure of Makrosm better than anything else I’ve considered.
Makrosm is primarily being shared through a card game, with periodic books and videogames.
